How Not To Do Your Twenties

It seems that every time I glance at a newstand this time of year, another magazine cover is trying to tell me how to live my life. This is true most of the year (see: Jessi’s awesome piece from The Hairpin), but, in January, the month of making and breaking resolutions, is gets even worse. It seems every airbrushed lady in Hollywood wants to help me make over my life, my face, my hair, my wardrobe, my body, my kitchen - if it can be made over, in January, I am supposed to make it over. Which honestly seems like it would take a lot of time away from eating gingerbread and watching reruns of “The New Girl.” But the real reason I dislike the idea of a makeover is because it suggests a complete overhaul. There’s a before and an after and in between, a team of highly trained professionals came in and fixed everything that is busted about you. This is all fairly ridiculous because you already have everything you need. You just have to tap into it.

(Unless you’re doing a major clean out of your apartment. Then you should probably call a professional.)
